thanks Kim for a fun prompt this evening at #dversepoetspub.
where we have been inspired to write about buildings we love by a a poem calle “yhe Building” by Philip Larkin.

Where is this?
Underage and dressed to the nines,
Friends, friends, friends whishing,
They were me, invited out,
Sweet dreams (Eurythmics.)
Loving life, strutting my stuff,
Past the blood bank,
bright lights calling, adrenalin rush.
Saturday night fever (Bee Gees).
Past gorillas, entrance fee paid,
Coat room ticket into pocket,
Excepted into inner sanctum.
Purple rain, purple rain. (Prince).
Past swirling bodies, aroused,
Dance floor bouncing, music up to loud,
Night club virginity lost; dancing shoes found.
Close to the edit (art of noise).

I enjoyed the mystery of your poem, Rog, and the way you drew me into it, especially the musical hints. The Eurythmics and Sweet Dreams were favourites of mine in the eighties, always on my stereo. I’ve only ever been to one or two night clubs, but I remember the gorillas and the coat room ticket well.

Love all those little musical breadcrumbs, and that made me think of Madness and the song “Our House”

I love the image!
Your poem had me hearing the beat and the heat of a thudding nightclub. Good one 🙂

The musical memories made me want to pull up a chair. Underage and dressed to the nines….well, it’s been a while:)

I enjoyed the musical references and the glimpses of the scene. It’s the second post I’ve read today about going clubbing in the past.
