hello all @ #dversepoetspub this evening I could not leave you all hanging on an evening like this. It is a stunningly warm and pleasant evening here
Jilted!
I wish I could apologise,
For leaving you alone,
If my heart still thumped,
Every beat would beat for you!
I wish I could say sorry,
For leaving waiting on the street corner,
If I could whisper sweet nothings,
You would have received all I had.
I wish I could be forgiven,
For not showing on our first date,
I am sure our loved would have bloomed,
Like the sweet rose bud, it was.
Here with my last breath,
As I die in the driver’s seat,
I wish you better than I,
Just a drunk driver needing,
A touch of liquid courage just to say hello,
To somebody as beautiful as you!

I literally gasped at the last stanza, never saw the twist coming, the tragedy unfolded in the moment. Rog, you took my breath away with this one, and the lover, an anti-hero yet hero in a tragic way, needing that “liquid courage” that stole his life, his dream of love away. Cleverly crafted, imaginative narrative that rings all too likely.

Sadly there isn’t so much a feeling of regret as there is personal justification. I suppose that is what addictive

I suppose that is what addictive personalities are truly like. Sorry, must have hit the send button before finishing my comment.

Oh no, what a tragic end. These two lines too carried such a weight…
If I could whisper sweet nothings,
You would have received all I had.
Very well done.

So tragic, the pain we visit upon others and upon ourselves 😦
