boating afterlife.

tonight we have been prompted to write about sailing/boating fun on the water. which reminds me of an older poem about the building of the grand union canal local to me. which was built between 1894 and 1929.

Navvies song

boating afterlife

the boat picture was a sad sight would cycle past it most days a couple of summers age. slowly getting more sad looking and more graffiti covered before it was removed.

Boating afterlife!

Broken and adrift my hearts desire lost,
Once I dreamt of a life afloat,
Roaming the inland waterways.

My life taken before I was ready,
Broken and adrift my body left for dead,
Never to roam the inland waterways.

My bow and sterne once of stunning colour,
My tiller once of solid oak, now rotting,
Broken and graffitied never shall I,
Roam the inland waterways again.

Roaming the inland waterways,
Once I dreamt of a life afloat,
Broken and adrift my hearts desire.

imagine #quadrille

hello tonight’s #dversepoetspub quadrille prompt is imagine. Thanks Lillian, my mind also went straight to John Lennon’s song of the same title. I have included another version of the song which I find extremely moving because of all those from around the world that are included it’s production bringing together those from around the world.

Imagined.

Many things humanity may have imaged,
Their own island? Really!
Great riches? Really!
Grand houses? Really!
Fast cars? Really!
Winning wars? REALLY!

Many things truly required,
Mother nature’s embrace!
Food for all!
Homes for every living thing!
Peace and love for all!
Just imagine.

This is my interpretation of such a classic.

winter sunrise

winter sunrise

picture taken Sunday morning on y early morning walk to my local bakery.

Winter sunrise.

Out I wonder to find today’s loaf of choice. The hat is on, my hands stuffed into my big coat’s pockets. My breath misting and showing itself, warm out cold in. The suns first rays bounce of the clouds above making me reach for the camera within my phone.

Slowing down my pace to lake in the stunning sky reflected on wet road. Among the sleeping homes the sun calls and the birds sing, as I quietly pass thinking am I the only one awake on such a wonderous Sunday morning.

Orange, red and gold,

Good morning to one and all,

Now breath and enjoy life.

curio-city again.

wonky fields

Tonight we have been prompted at #dversepoetry pub to describe the city in which we live. As I have never lived in a city I had to imagine what it would feel like. the town (not quite a city) Iive in is not really home. my heart is in the country side.

Curio-city. pt1.

What lays beyond that door?
Red on black above shouts curio-city.

Titillates my curiosity that window,
Light shouts curio-city in pink neon!

Compelled to enter curio-city,
Shop of endlessly delightful wonder.

Mr Curio-city taxidermist in residence!
Stuffed poets on pedestals for sale to all!

Curio-city. Pt2.

What lays beyond those doors?
Off Glass, wood or plastic?

Curio-City no longer has me,
Shopping now of no appeal.

Wonky fields holding appeal,
Over shop doors in sharp concrete walls.

Curio-city shopping a thing of the past,
Not safe for us poets in this city.

Stomp

Stomp!

#blankpage, #dversepoetspub, #elephant.

This blank page requires filling,

Sitting like an elephant in the room,

Imelda Mays “Elephant” ,
Stomping through my brain.

Balls of paper litter my work space,

Tired head refusing to compose,

Theres an elephant stomping around,

In my brain, trumping and angry.

Day to day life is this Elephants name,

Needing pacifying before I can chill,

Sometimes words on a page,

Sometimes music at volume,

Before sleep calls 🤙.

Tonight, both required.

Stomp, stomp, stom………

slumber.........
