tonight we have been prompted to write about sailing/boating fun on the water. which reminds me of an older poem about the building of the grand union canal local to me. which was built between 1894 and 1929.
Navvies song

the boat picture was a sad sight would cycle past it most days a couple of summers age. slowly getting more sad looking and more graffiti covered before it was removed.
Boating afterlife!
Broken and adrift my hearts desire lost,
Once I dreamt of a life afloat,
Roaming the inland waterways.
My life taken before I was ready,
Broken and adrift my body left for dead,
Never to roam the inland waterways.
My bow and sterne once of stunning colour,
My tiller once of solid oak, now rotting,
Broken and graffitied never shall I,
Roam the inland waterways again.
Roaming the inland waterways,
Once I dreamt of a life afloat,
Broken and adrift my hearts desire.
